What's a News Wire?

In the days when information could only travel as fast as a man on a horse could travel it could take months for important news to reach us from other countries.

With the advent of the telegraph and, later, the telephone news could be quickly passed 'down the wire' and newspapers in London could publish news from afar in days rather than weeks of months.

With the development of radio and finally the internet the technology has changed and now we can expect almost instantaneous coverage of worldwide events.

Take what you need

A news wire is not like a newspaper or a television broadcast. It provides a stream of news and information that is available to other news outlets to choose from for their on broadcasts and publications. It is up to editors to decide which stories are of interest to their viewers/readers.

Keeping it local

The Sevenoaks News Wire is based on this idea of a steady stream of news and information but we merely limit ourselves to the Sevenoaks area. We publish news, press releases, sports results, announcements and include video and images where available.

It is up to you and the others following our feed to decide what is relevant to you. We provide no editorial comment on items in the feed and do not censor items either. As long as it is legal for us to publish it and it is relevant to the Sevenoaks area then we put it on the Wire.

We are followed by members of the public and professional journalists so articles on our website and feeds are often passed on to others or used on others sites or publications.
