Ann Barnes Elected Police and Crime Commissioner

Independent candidate Ann Barnes has won the first Kent Police and Crime Commissioner election.

The results can be seen here on the returning officer's website: http://www.kentparo.org.uk/results.aspx

Overall the turnout was only 16.3% but Ann Barnes clearly won in all voting districts and had more than 40,000 more votes than the second place candidate Craig Mackinlay.

Barnes also had more than double the second preference votes of Mackinlay so they made no change to the overall result.

The government has declared that despite the low turnout nationally these result will stand.
