Kent Kite Festival and Mote Park Grand Opening

The Mote Regeneration Project is rapidly approaching completion, with the official reopening taking place as part of the Kent Kite Festival Event in the park on Sunday 24th June. We have local youth bands performing on stage, UK national champion kite display teams exhibiting a number of displays of weird and wonderful kites.

Meet and great Peppa pig and her brother George. There will be the opportunity for families to build and fly their own kites. Free build your own kite kits supplied. We will also have disc golf, Face painting funfair and much more. All activities, displays and performances on the day are completely FREE excluding the funfair.

The final areas to be completed are the main car park extension, the Lake Overflow and reinstatement of the River Len into Turkey Mill Lake, the cleaning and restoration of the Volunteers Pavilion and the final surfacing of all of the new paths in the park. All of these areas will be ready for the opening event.

The majority of the work has now been completed and is now being used by park users including the waterfall and the two accessible circular paths around the Park. The lakeside and parkland paths are 2.3Km and 3.8Km long and link to all of the major entrances.

The original objective of the project was not only to encourage more people to visit but also to get them to discover more of the park. In addition to the original main car parking area, off of Mote Avenue, there are now two additional hubs accessible from Willington Street and School Lane. These two additional hubs also have car parking and play areas.

At 12 noon the Mayor will officially declare the park reopened and will unveil a commemorative plaque. As well as local Councillors, representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund and volunteers that have worked in the park,
Peppa and George are looking forward to meeting families at the event as well as doing a bit of kite flying.
